On the one hand I have a car - the road tax is paid up, there's fuel in it, it is MOT'd and it's safer. It's warm, slightly faster ( I underestimate ! - But it only takes another 5 minutes to cycle the 2 miles to the shops )
On the other hand there's the bike and all the gear I have to put on to withstand the elements.
The pics are there, on the Gallery - the somnolent bike - the blasted road......and I've pasted them below too:

In the end I stay at home and decide to calculate the carbon footprint caused by driving 4 - 5 miles.
to be continued
10 minutes later -
I Googled it and got a carbon footprint calculator that showed me that my car emits around 1 tonne of carbon for every 2,500 miles that I travel. That's around 500 trips to Inverurie; the nearest town to home.
This month I have not used the car, I have cycled to the town several times, chummed a couple of lifts and took the train to Edinburgh to visit my daughters. I have given more thought to using the car and found that some trips were not really necessary - like today.
I feel better from cycling (even thoough I got soaked on one occasion) and thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Edinburgh. The return trip - to Inverurie - cost £17, First Class was £19 so I took it - just because I'd never been in First Class before.
OK, So I got a "55 Club" discount !
Does anyone else agree with me that "Thinking Green" can offer distinct improvements to our daily life as well as benefitting the environment ?
